Verdict

Antonio Amador and Fermín Arrazola produce 200 bottles a year, which is roughly what a scarcity pricing model would recommend, and the liquid justifies the math. Clay-pot mexicano from Sola de Vega is one of the category's prettiest expressions, pepper, pear, mineral, clay itself in the finish. If you see it on a shelf, pour it. The bottle won't last the night.

Sola de Vega clay pot mexicano is rare for a reason. This is the reason

Tasting notes

Nose: Cooked pear walks in first. Then white pepper, wet clay

Palate: 47% and the olla de barro give this more weight than most mexicanos carry, the clay contributes a mineral thickness, the agave adds pepper and green fruit, the proof keeps the architecture upright

Finish: River rock, peppery. Stays long

The bottom line

Hunt this when you can. It doesn't appear often
