The Lost Explorer Tobala
Tobalá at 42%. The proof that underserves the agave
Score: 2.5/5 agaves

- Agave: Tobala
- ABV: 42%
- Price: $70 ($$)
Verdict
Wild tobalá represents years of plant maturation and significant producer effort, and bottles that deliver it at 42% are not respecting the agricultural input. The Lost Explorer's tobalá is pleasant but structurally undersized. Banhez Tobalá at 47% costs less and delivers more agave.
Tobalá at 42% is a premium agave filed down to retail shelf
Tasting notes
Nose: Honey, then green melon, a faint mineral, light smoke
Palate: 42% is below the tobalá floor, and the bottle loses what wild-agave weight-class demands, the aromatic lift is there, the mid-palate architecture isn't
Finish: Short-medium, floral, clean
The bottom line
Pass. Banhez Tobalá is the better value at similar tier
