Verdict
Juan Pacheco Santos's arroqueño is from Ejutla, which doesn't get the press Sola de Vega does, and the 46% proof is a half-step below where the agave peaks – but the bull-stone-tahona milling and refrescador still produce a credible bottle. Consensus has no number; we come in at 3.5. Reach for Tepanal's 50% arroqueño for the full argument; come back here for Ejutla specificity.
Ejutla arroqueño – the under-celebrated region, the under-celebrated agave, one bottle
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked pineapple, then dark chocolate, wet earth, a mineral depth
Palate: 46% is on the lighter end for arroqueño but Juan Pacheco Santos's refrescador distillation and Ejutla terroir still deliver the cooked-fruit and chocolate signature the agave promises
Finish: Mineral, chocolate – long
The bottom line
A credible Ejutla arroqueño. Climb to Tepanal for the ceiling
