Verdict
Fernando Mitra's arroqueño is one of Tio Pesca's most committed bottles – 47% is honest for arroqueño, the clay-pot still gives it the weight the agave requires, and the Sola de Vega terroir does the usual heavy lifting. It's not quite Tepanal's 50% version at the top of the shelf, but in Tio Pesca's catalog it's the bottle to buy.
Sola de Vega arroqueño that pulls its weight in clay
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked pineapple, then dark chocolate, wet clay, a mineral depth
Palate: 47% and clay-pot distillation deliver arroqueño's weight-class signature – cooked-fruit sweetness, chocolate depth, the barro contributing a limestone texture that holds the whole palate together
Finish: Flinty, chocolate – long
The bottom line
Buy it. Arroqueño done correctly at its tier
