Tres Santos Ensamble
A two-agave ensamble muted by the proof floor
Score: 2.5/5 agaves
- Producer: Tres Santos Mezcal
- Maestro: Miguel Martinez Jerónimo
- Region: San Dionisio Ocotepec, Oaxaca
- Agave: Cuishe, Espadin
- ABV: 40%
- Price: $50 ($$)
Verdict
Martinez Jerónimo's cuishe at proof is a genuine bottle; the same maestro's ensamble at 40% is the sort of thing that happens when a brand decides to hit a price. The karwinskii-espadín pairing had potential; the proof floor removes most of it. Pass for the single-agave Tres Santos bottles.
40% erases what 45% would have revealed
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave with a light smoke, mineral
Palate: Clean but thin at 40%, with the cuishe-espadín pairing reading as an outline rather than a finished sketch
Finish: Clean, unremarkable. Short
The bottom line
Skip. Buy the cuishe; leave the ensamble
