Verdict
Ultramundo's Mapimí lamparillo sits next to the brand's Nombre de Dios work as a study in how much terroir matters inside a single Durango agave. Where Ávila's bottle has the herbal pine lift, the Pelayo collective's version is drier, stonier, more austere, a different expression of the same plant family. Track both and taste the state.
Lamparillo from Mapimí tastes like the desert in a glass
Tasting notes
Nose: Desert herbs, warm stone
Palate: Lean and dry at 45-50%, with the Mapimí terroir reading drier and more austere than the Nombre de Dios bottlings, this is Durango at its most desert-facing
Finish: Drying, mineral. Long
The bottom line
Worth tracking. Durango terroir study at fair proof
