Verdict
Unión Uno's cooperative-ownership story is genuinely interesting – the producers own a stake in the brand, which is rare in mezcal's industry structure. The liquid, at 38-40% ABV, does not live up to the business story. Consensus 3.4 is too generous; the marketing story is being graded here, not the mezcal. The cooperative model deserves support; this specific bottle does not.
Mezcal with the volume turned all the way down
Tasting notes
Nose: Very faint smoke, banana candy, cotton candy
Palate: Thin, sweet, short
Finish: Dissipates almost immediately
The bottom line
For the same money, Vida or Banhez both deliver more to taste
