Verdict
Aquilino García López built the Vago reputation; his sons are the reason the reputation isn't past tense. The Hijos de Aquilino tepextate at ~50% is the bottle that proves generational handoffs can work when the handoff is run strictly. The father's discipline, rendered by the next hand. The category's best living argument that good mezcal isn't a single lifetime's work.
A generational handoff done strictly
Tasting notes
Nose: Wildflower. Then hot slate, white pepper, tropical fruit
Palate: Electric at ~50% – tepextate done with the discipline the father's releases set
Finish: Unending. Drying, cooling, floral
The bottom line
Worth chasing
