Verdict

Flor de piedra is a rare Jalisco agave that doesn't make it to most shelves, and Gerardo Peña's version is a legitimate introduction to what the plant does, mineral, austere, more stone than fruit. At 46% it's proofed correctly, and the Jacales terroir gives it a distinct fingerprint. Reading at 3.5.

Flor de piedra is agave at its most lithic

Tasting notes

Nose: Wet stone, wildflower, green pepper

Palate: With the flor de piedra's characteristic stony austerity intact and Gerardo Peña's hand keeping the back palate clean; lean and mineral at 46%

Finish: Drying, iron-tinged, long

The bottom line

Track it. Rare Jalisco agave with legible terroir
