Verdict
Manuel Salcedo's lechuguilla is the bottle Vecindad uses to make the case for Mascota, the Jalisco highland town producing some of the state's more aromatic wild work. At 50% the plant's herbal character reads fully, and the mountain terroir gives it a cleaner back palate than the coastal bottlings. We score it 3.5. Track it.
Lechuguilla is agave's green chord
Tasting notes
Nose: Green herbs, tropical fruit, wet leaves, mineral
Palate: With the lechuguilla's characteristic herbal lift intact and the Mascota terroir reading distinct from the Cabo Corrientes bottlings; lean and aromatic at 50%
Finish: Cooling, slate-tinged
The bottom line
Worth tracking. Highland Jalisco lechuguilla with structure
