Verdict

Jose Lucas's tepextate is the Viejo Indecente bottle that makes the case for the bench alongside the madrecuishe – 48% proof, wild plant, single maestro, legible terroir. Not at the level of the Tr3s Tiempos tepextate (49% from Diego Lucas Garcia) but close enough to run in the same flight.

Tepextate at 48% is the plant with its voice fully forward

Tasting notes

Nose: Wet basil, white pepper, wildflower, stone

Palate: With the tepextate's slow-plant weight intact and Jose Lucas's disciplined hand keeping the structure coherent; floral and mineral at 48%

Finish: Cooling, peppery, very long

The bottom line

Track it. A working tepextate at the correct proof
