Verdict
Wahaka is one of the more distributed Oaxacan brands, and the entry espadín is exactly what that distribution requires – 40% proof, clean, safe, and forgettable. Alberto Morales Mendez has clearly made more interesting bottles; this isn't one of them. Pass for Banhez or Tosba at the same or next tier.
40% is where espadín stops doing its job
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave with a light smoke, a sweet undertone
Palate: Clean and thin. At 40%, with Alberto Morales Mendez's hand legible in outline but the proof running too low for structural depth
Finish: Sweet, clean – short
The bottom line
Skip for Banhez. The proof floor removes the point
