Verdict
Félix Macedas's espadilla is the bottle that makes you want to re-taste every commercial espadín on your shelf. At 48% the agave's character is deeper, drier, more layered – nothing gentled out. Consensus 4.5 matches the room on this one. Hunt it before the palenque's production gets absorbed by an importer's marketing calendar.
Wild espadilla is espadín's more interesting relative
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked pineapple with warm stone, black pepper, restrained smoke
Palate: The espadilla (a wild sister to espadín) reading brighter and more mineral than its domesticated cousin. Weight, lift, a long vegetal middle; full and structured at 48%
Finish: Dry, faintly herbal. Stays long
The bottom line
Worth chasing. Wild espadilla you'll remember
