Verdict

Yuu Baal's añejo is one of the more restrained aged mezcals in the category – the oak arrives in service of the spirit rather than as a substitute for it. At 45% the structure holds through the barrel's influence. Consensus 3.8 sits about right; reach for this over any Zignum añejo and most Casamigos-adjacent plays.

Aged mezcal only works when the wood knows when to stop

Tasting notes

Nose: Dark honey, oak, vanilla, cooked agave, a whiff of campfire

Palate: Medium-full at 45%, the barrel adding warmth without drowning the espadín. Sweetness layered under oak rather than pasted on top

Finish: Warming, a gentle oak echo

The bottom line

A credible añejo. Rare genre, fair execution
