Reposado from a producer that drinks like a committee

- Price: $39 ($)
Verdict
Zignum Reposado is the house's default move: soft proof, wood-smoothed, agave optional. Consensus 2.6 is charitable. If you need a wooded mezcal at this price, Yuu Baal Reposado is a better bottle from a more committed producer. Skip the Zignum range across the board unless a bar well forces the issue.
Engineered inoffensiveness is its own kind of offense
Tasting notes
Nose: Vanilla, light oak, cooked agave flattened by sugar
Palate: Sweet and rounded at 40%, the wood and the proof conspiring to erase every edge. Inoffensive, uninteresting
Finish: Sugary, gone. Short
The bottom line
Skip. The category has earned better
