The call

We score both 4.0. With nothing between them in the glass, buy whichever is cheaper on your shelf; by our average prices that is La Luna Cupreata.

Derrumbes San Luis Potosi

The most educational single bottle in the Derrumbes range

Nose: Fresh asparagus walks in first, then salt, white pepper

Palate: Vegetal in a way Oaxacan mezcal almost never is – this is what salmiana does that angustifolia cannot

Finish: Saline, herbal, strange in a good way – long

La Luna Cupreata

Michoacán azul, presented as itself

Nose: Cooked blue agave, green herb, wet stone, cool smoke

Palate: 48% – Isidro Perez Escot's Etucuaro azul ensamble is denser and more agave-forward than the cupreata entry above; the Michoacán azul character carries cleanly

Finish: Clean, warm – long
