Fidencio Clasico
A straight-shooter espadín that punches a full tier above its price
Score: 3.5/5 agaves
- Producer: Fidencio Mezcal
- Maestro: Enrique Jiménez
- Region: Santiago Matatlán, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 45%
- Price: $45 ($)
Verdict
Fidencio Clásico does nothing fancy and everything right. Behind a bar it outperforms bottles twice its price; on the shelf it disappears because the label is quiet. The 3.2 consensus is too low – this bottle is a 3.5 all day.
The honest $46 bottle the category needs more of
Tasting notes
Nose: Roasted agave. Then green apple, subtle smoke
Palate: Clean, balanced, herbal finish hints at mint and green tomato
Finish: Dry, refreshing
The bottom line
A sleeper pick. Worth doubling up on and give one away
