Verdict
Historias y Memorias is exactly the kind of brand that makes mezcal-shelf curation hard: the liquid is fine, the producer's hands are real, and there's nothing specifically to criticize – but there's also nothing that makes you pick this over Vida, Banhez, or Doña Juana's espadín under the Mestiza Negra label. Pass for a first bottle; buy if you already know the brand personally.
An espadín where nothing's wrong and nothing's singular
Tasting notes
Nose: Cooked agave, cool smoke, faint banana
Palate: 46% – José Luis Hernández's espadín is pleasant, soft-spoken, and without much to distinguish it from the stack of similar bottles at the same price
Finish: Short to medium, clean, warm
The bottom line
Pass in favor of Vida, Banhez, or the Doña Juana Matatlán at similar money
