Señorío Joven
The bottom of the shelf, honestly
Score: 1.0/5 agaves
- Producer: Señorío Mezcal
- Region: Tlacolula, Oaxaca
- Agave: Espadin
- ABV: 40%
- Price: $48 ($)
Verdict
Señorío's joven is a category low, industrial-feeling, proof-minimum, nothing to defend. Even 400 Conejos is measurably a better bottle at comparable money. Skip outright; if you must have a sub-$20 mezcal, Del Maguey Vida is the only defensible option.
Mezcal as industrial product, stripped of every reason anyone likes mezcal
Tasting notes
Nose: Chemical smoke, sweet vanilla, little agave
Palate: 40% thin, confected sweetness, the mezcal category represented as cheaply as it can be and still be legal
Finish: Sugary, gone, short
The bottom line
Skip. Even 400 Conejos at $5 more is a better bottle
