Mezcal from Tlacolula, Oaxaca

Tlacolula is the district name covering Santiago Matatlán, San Dionisio Ocotepec, San Baltazar Guélavila, and a dozen smaller villages – the volume center of Oaxacan mezcal collectively. Bottles labeled simply 'Tlacolula' rather than to a specific village come from producers who source across the district or from villages too small to advertise individually. Structural espadín, occasional ensamble work, prices from $25 commercial up through $80 single-maestro.
