Arroqueño Mezcal

Arroqueño (Agave americana var. oaxacensis) is mezcal's heaviest-bodied agave – dense, resinous, slightly sweet, with structural carry that even high proof can't make heavy. Arroqueño matures in 12-15 years and is one of the few wild agaves where the plant's natural complexity doesn't need much elaborate production to show up in the glass. Solo arroqueños tend to land in the $55-$85 band; ensambles featuring it run higher. The agave plays especially well with high-proof execution and clay-pot distillation.
